SCV Dispatch Shut-Down: The Purge Continues

John Adams, SCV Adjutant-in-Chief, Chief Webmaster, and Florida Division Commander, has admitted that he has not been on the Dispatch "for several years." We at Save the SCV assume that he receives reports from the Listmaster, Charles "Chuck" Walker, and others about the bizarre goings on at the Dispatch, an E-mail forum operated by and for the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Adams has seemingly ignored the fact that the Dispatch has become a veritable hate forum for the most radical elements in the SCV and a dumping ground for all sorts of messages having little or nothing to do with legitimate SCV business. The published rules of the Dispatch are regularly ignored and violated by many of the subscribers. Listmaster Walker has selectively tolerated and encouraged those blatant violations.

Walker's obsession with "moles" has led to the removal of honorable SCV members from the Dispatch and has fostered a climate of hate and paranoia.

To illustrate the madness which has existed on the Dispatch, a few excerpts from messages posted during the month of August 2003, are included for your examination:

  • "Some of the biggest scalawags in the SCV are here in the Georgia Division, a couple of which are current or past officers. They sold out before we ever heard of the sscv." [Note: The "sscv" is a reference to Save the SCV]

  • "We are in Pre-Hell!!!! Fags, liberals and yankees are everywhere!!!!! If people don't get right with Jesus, they might just spend hell in eternity with these deviants!!!!! Lee Herron #158 For A Free Southland...O, I'm Glad I'm in the Land of Cotton"

  • "It is my experience that the two extremes, the super educated and the older long term membership are those who are pacifist and want to remain low-key. The more educated most become, the more spineless they devolve to." -- Kevin Spargur, Commander 6th Brigade, Florida Division

  • "...the Sons of Confederate Veterans plays with itself and invents reasons not to confront its own charge...Members of this organization who have taken to the streets to protest in defense of the Cause have been denigrated and vilified as 'radicals.' Members who have actually engaged in civil disobedience have been denounced or disciplined....Shame on us." -- Roger McCredie, Camp #7

  • "I am Southerner first and an American second...The Congress continues to extend the unconstitutional Civil Rights Act of 1964...[Save the SCV editors’ note: The Civil Rights Act of 1964, which outlawed segregation in public accommodations is NOT unconstitutional. It was unanimously upheld as a valid exercise of the commerce clause of the US Constitution by the US Supreme Court in 1964] ...The US government is our dedicated enemy....Consequently, unless a majority of the SCV members act as Southerners first and as Americans second, we can kiss the South and the SCV goodbye." -- Frank Conner, Camp#584, Newnan, GA

  • "That (sic) has to be one place I can say the word Queer--hope it's the Dispatch." -- Earl C. Wilson

  • "I've dealt with the issues involved with the Hunley Commission for some time now. I've been told lie after lie. Cover-up after cover-up. I was almost convinced a short while back the burial and last remaining rights of these Brave-Southern-Sailors would be an honorable mission well planned {wishful thinking}. It is a known fact that the Confederate Colors will be furled at this event and the colors of their enemy {stars-and-stripes} will fly at full breeze and flaunt the victory of the 'War of Northern aggression.' While yankee reenactors flaunt the victory while marching in their blue-bellied uniforms....Boring holes into the skulls of these WARRIORS to extract brain tissue is an abomination born from hell." -- Paul Burr, John Wilkes Booth 4/14/65 [Note: The John Wilkes Booth "camp" is a clandestine group containing some of the most rabid members of the SCV]

  • "Gentlemen of the Dispatch!! I call on Commander in Chief Ron Wilson, to direct the Dispatch Listmaster to REMOVE all sscv members from this private SCV list. This is a private List for SCV MEMBERS to exchange information with-in the organization. Emails from this list have been forwarded to and posted on the sscv web site, that anyone and everyone can log-on to....We have the list of sscv endorsers so we know who they are...it's time to CLEAN HOUSE NOW!!!" -- Jim McManus, Commander J.E.B. Stuart Camp #1598, Mt. Airy, NC

Word was received Friday, August 29, that the SCV Dispatch had been shut down by SCV Webmaster Adams. Adams' message, printed below, drips with paranoia.

Gentlemen,

For some time now, the SCVDispatch, which is for SCV Members ONLY, has been
penetrated and compromised by those who do NOT wish the SCV well. Every
time Commander Walker or I clean the list of these folks, they somehow
regain access. (generally through oversight or carelessness)

Additionally, a number of posts from the SCVDispatch daily fall into the hands of non-members. Subscribers on the SCVDispatch have intentionally
and sometimes maliciously forwarded SCVDispatch posts to folks like the
Southern Poverty Law Center or Save the SCV.

After speaking with the Commander-in-Chief Tuesday night, he and several of
his officers agreed with Commander Walker and me that the SCV Dispatch had
to be shut down until a more secure and auditable method of maintaining
members could be implemented.

It is my hope that a process can be put into place shortly that will allow
us maintain a secure list, one where we do not have to wonder about who is
spying on us.

When the SCVDispatch returns, notification will be placed on the
SCVWebsite, and sent electronically to former members.

In the meantime, all is not lost. I have set up a new list, called
scvnews@confederacy.net. All of you are already subscribed to this
list. In fact, nearly 3,000 SCV members are currently subscribed to it.

The difference, is that scvnews@confederacy.net will be an "Administrator
Post Only" list. Only the list administrators can send posts...subscribers
can NOT respond to posts, or reply to posts. It is a one-way News Conduit
that will provide each of you with IMPORTANT information on SCV issues and
business. All posts must be approved by the Commander-in-Chief or his
designate.

Instead of your email-boxes filling up with junk, you will likely only see
a maximum of 3-4 posts a week. The Gray-Line will be typical of the kind
of things planned for posting.

All of you should see something from this list in the next day or so,
welcoming you to this new service, and explaining how it works.

In closing, I would like to express my sincere thanks to Commander Chuck
Walker - who in spite of personal trials and crisis, has managed to serve
long and honorably as Listmaster - he has endured the slings and arrows,
the meek and the hateful, the PC novice and the PC addict. Throughout all
of this, Cdr. Walker has done a superb job, and has served the SCV with Honor.

Thank you for your understanding and patience,

John W. Adams, Chief Webmaster

John W. Adams
Adjutant-in-Chief
Chief Webmaster
Florida Division Commander

It is good that the SCV Dispatch has finally been shut-down, even if for the wrong reason and only temporarily. This should have happened long ago. The Dispatch is an embarrassment to decent SCV members. Unfortunately, it will only be shut-down long enough to conduct another purge of dissenting SCV members.

Most of those previously removed from the Dispatch were targeted because they publicly condemned the current SCV administration. Those soon-to-be-removed members will suffer the same fate for the same reason.

No doubt the new and improved SCV Dispatch, when it is unveiled, will be worse than the old one.
