Subverting the
Democratic Process
I have been a
member of the SCV for approximately 10 years, having begun my membership
in George Davis Camp #5 in Wilmington, N.C. While I have never been
elected to an office in either camp, I presently am the editor of the Camp
#15 newsletter. I am happy to give my endorsement to the Save the SCV
movement.
From what I have
seen and read, I don't think it is right that the Commander-in-Chief is
subverting the democratic process that took place at the Memphis Reunion
by removing our duly elected Commander of the ANV over alleged talks with
the press. What secrets are supposed to have been revealed that might be
so damaging to the SCV? It seems to me that someone just doesn't want the
light of day to shine on what he/they intend to do with this organization.
I refuse to stand
by while anyone, whether it be the Commander-in-Chief, a camp commander,
or member(s) try to ally the SCV with hate groups or anything else that
will detract from our stated purpose: honoring our Confederate ancestors.

The
SCV As It Was Meant To Be
Tonight I received
a phone call from the Commander of the Mt Airy Camp, Compatriot McManus.
He told me about this new radical faction that had been formed within the
SCV and how they were undermining the leadership of Ron Wilson and others.
After all he told me I was in fact in agreement with him. Then I went to
the group's website and read the statements and read the names of the men
I had the privilege of meeting and working with in the years I have been
in the SCV. Men like Charles Hawks, Dean Brown, Larry Beeson, Albert
Jones, Gilbert Jones, Lewis Lawrence, Chip Pate, and my own Brigade
Commander David Yemm. I have seen this coming and did not know how to deal
with it.
I am proud to be
able to offer my name and services to this group for the preservation and
advancement of the SCV as it was when I first joined, a group dedicated to
the preservation and advancement of our proud heritage. God bless you and
may we succeed in this endeavor to restore the SCV to what it should be. I
sent Commander McManus a retraction to my earlier assessment and asked
that my name not be used in his project.
Respectfully,
Walter L. Wilson, Camp Commander, The Davidson Guards, Camp 1851
