Making the E-mail rounds is the following from the Mississippi Division Commander to the members of the Mississippi Division:

MS Division - From Division Commander

Gentlemen of the MS Division,

Our hearing in Columbia was not as successful as we had wished it to be. The judge ruled that Denne Sweeney does not have the authority to fire members of the executive council and that his actions of the December meeting in North Carolina were illegal and that the meeting is null and void. All members of the executive council are reinstated and he does not have the power to remove them. He also ruled that our meeting in February was not recognized only because we did not provide enough notice time of called meeting. Therefore, Denne Sweeney is back in the chair. We appreciate the fact that the Mississippi members hung in there with us for a fight that was right and just, even though we were not able, because of council, to divulge all of the facts of the case. As the judge ruled, Denne Sweeney's acts were illegal and as you can see he had to be stopped. I guess you might say that the ruling was 50/50.

You will be notified of any further developments regarding this case as soon as they happen. Again, my thanks and appreciation go out to the members of the Mississippi Division who stood fast in defense of what was right. I have no regrets and feel that we did what had to be done to try and save the integrity of The Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Most respectfully,
John L. French, Commander
MS Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans
Councilman, Army of Tennessee
