Former Texas Division Commander Announces His Resignation From The SCV

The following message was recently forwarded to Save the SCV. The writer is Mr. Steve von Roeder, a longtime SCV member and immediate past commander of the Texas Division of the SCV:

"It is my intention to resign from the Sons of Confederate Veterans, effective immediately. I can no longer, in good conscience, associate myself with an organization whose mission and goals have been usurped, and whose future appears to be turning in a direction that will besmirch the good name of my Confederate ancestor. I am thoroughly convinced, as are many, that the SCV's national leadership is corrupt and has lost sight of the organization’s purpose. They are hell-bent on taking the SCV in the wrong and a very destructive direction. The current administration has all but handed the SCV over to the SLRC and the LOS, places it was never intended to go.

"I will never give up the fight to preserve Texas’ rich Confederate Heritage and honor my Confederate ancestors. But, I can certainly do this without the SCV.

"To the new Texas Division Commander, congratulations and best wishes. I encourage you to fight the forces that are taking-over the organization and not to partner openly with the League of the South and other radical / racial organizations that support White Supremacy. And as the son of the ‘‘greatest generation’’ of men who fought for America in World War II, I encourage you to do everything within your power to eliminate the acceptance and inclusion of those who do not pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. It is THAT flag that allows us the freedom to honor our Confederate heritage. If this practice continues, the SCV will lose any credibility as a real veteran’s organization. There is a lot more to be said, but I seriously doubt that anyone would care."

Steve von Roeder,

Past Commander
